Your Vote Matters!

Earlier this week, Meta was accused of interfering in Brazil’s runoff election by boosting accounts that support Bolsonaro and suppressing accounts that support Lula. Lula sued. Meta claims the problem was caused by a technical glitch. Brazil’s electoral court ruled that Meta must provide equal treatment to both candidates.

Today, Meta took down the “No Kings” Instagram account early in the afternoon, on the day of their early-voting push. This was done with no warning and no explanation. The account was down “for approximately 90 minutes during the peak of Saturday’s demonstrations, when organizers were using the platform to coordinate events, amplify turnout, and encourage Americans to vote early ahead of the midterm elections.” There was no response from Meta to the account’s admin team during
that time.

When the account was put back up, Meta claimed it “had made a ‘bad call.’” However, the admin team had no access to the account and could not update or post anything. At the time I am writing this, the latest update on Bluesky says that four hours after the account was taken down, the admin team still had no access.

Meanwhile, over on TikTok, the account for the Musk documentary was permanently suspended, ostensibly because of violations of TikTok’s rules on political policy.

The media oligarchs are interfering because they are afraid of losing their hold on political power. They must be stopped. We the People need a Congress willing to do that. We the People need your vote, because We the People includes you.

At three universities in North Carolina, students had their campus polling places taken away. So on the first day of early voting, they marched to the nearest polling place to cast their votes and make their voices heard. Be inspired by their strength and determination.

Early voting starts in my state next Tuesday, October 20. I’m ready!
