Who Knows?

April 8, 2026

So was it all posturing, an effort to look all-powerful and claim some kind of “win”? President TACO moved the deadline for his ultimatum several times in the last few weeks, so was this just more of the same? If the U.S. and Iran truly had been working on a cease-fire agreement all along, what was the point of Trump’s issuing threats that amount to war crimes? How did he expect that to help him negotiate an agreement?

The comment he posted on Easter Sunday, in which he not only dropped an f-bomb but also called the Iranians “crazy bastards” was pure rage and demonstrated a complete lack of self-restraint. Some pundits said that in his “a whole civilization will die tonight” post on Monday, he gave himself a way out. He claimed to be working with a new regime, so he might not have to carry through on his threat. “WHO KNOWS?” he wrote.

And therein lies the problem. Who does know whether he means what he says? Are his threats simply bluff and bluster and braggadocio, sprinkled with exaggeration and superlatives? Do we take him seriously or not? President Why-Aren’t-They-Cowering? has found himself up against a far more formidable foe than he anticipated. Some form of the Iranian regime is still in power and has President We-Don’t-Need-No-Stinkin’-Oil over a barrel—many barrels actually—whole tankers full. He is so accustomed to servile obedience that he grossly underestimated the regime’s fortitude and tenacity in the face of his continued threats with their ever-changing deadlines. (If our Congress had even a fraction of that regime’s fearlessness, we would not be stuck in a war that we did not ask for and cannot afford to pay for, in blood or treasure.)

Who indeed does know what this unstable idiot will do next? Will there come a point at which the president will lose patience and call for catastrophic strikes on Iran? And who in his sycophantic administration will even consider restraining him? Certainly not Pete All-Lethality-No-Morality Hegseth. Congress? Still on Easter recess with not a peep from the so-called leadership.

We have to depend on our military leaders to refuse to carry out orders they know to be illegal. Will they follow the law? Will Hegseth keep firing those who choose to obey the law until he finds officers who will comply with Trump’s orders, lawful or not? Who knows?
