Perversion of Justice
May 24, 2026
When the last thing he did leaves you wondering how he could possibly do worse, he says, “Watch this!” His latest “this” is the announcement last week of the bogus “Settlement” and its fraudulent “Anti‑Weaponization Fund.”
According to an overview that Acting AG Todd Blanche gave to Republicans in Congress, the Fund was established “to hear and redress claims of Americans who suffered from lawfare and weaponization, defined as the use of government power to target them for ‘improper and unlawful’ reasons.” The overview also states, “There is no partisan restriction: Democrats can submit claims, too.” Sure they can. But what are the chances that someone who claims harm done by the Trump administration will receive compensation compared to someone who claims harm done by the Biden administration?
As I see it, with this Fund, the Instigator-in-Chief is offering recompense to his most zealous supporters: those who answered the call and did his bidding on January 6, 2021. They participated in the insurrection, were justly convicted of and received sentences for their criminal acts, were later pardoned or had their sentences commuted, and are now being rewarded for their efforts to block the certification of a free and fair election—which he lost, and which loss he refuses to accept.
The pardons he issued on the day of his second inauguration ripped open the wounds he inflicted on us on that January 6. Since then we’ve endured the destruction and chaos wrought by DOGE and by the incompetent members of his cabinet. The inhumane arrests, detentions, deportations, and lives lost at the hands of ICE and CBP agents. The abuse and harassment of U.S. citizens, legal residents, holders of valid visas, and immigrants who are going through the lengthy process of seeking asylum. The illegal bombing of boats in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific. The abduction of Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The war in Iran. The craziness with Greenland and Canada. The who-knows-what he has in mind for Cuba. The lawsuits against media companies, law firms, universities, and other organizations. The suppression of the Epstein files. His obsession with transsexualism, the hateful words he directs at people who have the condition, and the resulting harm done to those people. The corruption and graft. The racist gerrymandering campaign. The monuments to himself. The manic posting on social media in the middle of the night, followed by his sleeping on the job in the middle of the day.
And now he is pouring acid into the January 6 wound with this gross perversion of justice.
The man is dangerously deluded. Yet no one who is in a position to stop him—neither Republicans in Congress nor the conservatives on the Supreme Court—will do so. The Court helps him along while Congress plays dead. And his cabinet? Either as deluded as he is or too afraid of the MAGA mob to invoke the 25th amendment.
I spent much of last week writing, rewriting, and starting over altogether, trying to wrap my head around this travesty. In an attempt to understand it better, I read all of the pertinent documents; you can find links to them below. I urge you to read them, as the Settlement and the Fund, to my mind, constitute serious transgressions against our republic.
Donald J. Trump and his seditious band of insurrectionists are owed nothing by the U.S. government. On the contrary, it is Trump who has weaponized the U.S. government for vindictive purposes. If there is to be an Anti-Weaponization Fund, then the victims of his punitive policies must be the beneficiaries.
