How Does This Keep Happening?

Did the Secret Service learn nothing from their massive failure in Butler, Pennsylvania? How did the suspect gain access to the hotel lobby last night? If he stored his weapons outside of the building, how did he get past external security? Were all entrances covered? Is there an adjoining parking structure? Was that covered? If the guy had his weapons in his hotel room, how did he get past internal security? Were all stairwells, elevators, and any other means of access covered? Watch the video; watch him come running down a hallway toward the lobby and past the security people there. I count ten people. Some of them don’t seem to react until he is right in front of them or past them.

Like them or not, government officials need real protection, and this ain’t it.

Also, note this passage in an AP article about the security measures: “Security camera footage released by Trump to social media shortly after the incident shows the gunman running past security officers who appear to be disassembling the metal detectors. Once the president was seated in the ballroom, additional attendees were not permitted to enter the secured area, which is why they were taking them down.”

This is notable not only because the metal detector was possibly being disassembled—the guy appears to run right through it—but also because Trump posted the video “shortly after the incident.” How did he get it so quickly? When did law enforcement get the video? How was it vetted and cleared for publication so quickly? Who the heck is in charge of safety and security for high-ranking officials? Does anyone know?
