Why We Must Vote

1. Donald J. Trump incited an insurrection on January 6, 2021, in order to prevent certification of the results of a free and fair election that he lost. Republican senators condemned Trump in the immediate aftermath, then failed to convict him when he was impeached by the House. This, to me, is unforgivable.
2. Donald J. Trump continues to cover up his involvement in the Epstein sex-trafficking network. He has destroyed lives and doesn’t care. He is interested only in protecting himself, and he is using the DOJ to that end.
3. Donald J. Trump has destroyed our alliances around the world. No one can trust the U.S. anymore.
4. Donald J. Trump has not ended the war in Ukraine as he claimed he would. Ukraine’s use of the Starshield satellite system (built by SpaceX for the U.S. military) has been restricted by the U.S. in a way that impedes Ukraine’s ability to use drones and to intercept Russian drones. No one in the administration will say who gave the order to do this. In addition, Ukraine is no longer receiving intelligence from the U.S. about incoming attacks from Russia. Ukraine also reports delays in shipments of missile interceptors. In an interview with Aljazeera, Poland’s foreign minister said that the U.S. has not provided any financial assistance to Ukraine since January of 2025.
Donald J. Trump suspended a law that he signed last month that would have put additional sanctions on Russia. This is in addition to the diesel deal he made with Putin, which will not bring down diesel prices in the U.S. but will put more money in Putin’s war chest.
Donald J. Trump has turned against Ukraine and is giving aid and comfort to Putin, who is an enemy of the United States. If he looks like a traitor, acts like a traitor, and quacks like a traitor . . .
5. Donald J. Trump has not ended the war in Gaza. Instead, he started a war in Iran that he cannot win or end, and which is now expanding to other parts of the Middle East. He has endorsed Benjamin Netanyahu in the elections in Israel, saying that Netanyahu has been “a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran.” There is no peace in the Middle East. And Netanyahu should be aware that an endorsement by Trump is not always a good thing.
6. Donald J. Trump continues to persecute Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, mock Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, and spew hateful, dangerous bigotry against Somalis and Muslims. He assumes anyone who looks Hispanic or speaks with an accent must be an “illegal alien.” He describes Black women as “low IQ.” He hurls derogatory and demeaning insults at female journalists.
7. Donald J. Trump is destroying our economy, increasing everyone’s cost of living. At the same time, he and his family, experts in grifting and graft, are enriching themselves at our expense.
8. Donald J. Trump is destroying our healthcare system and named a nutjob to head HHS. And today, he announced a task force on women’s health to be headed by that same nutjob. Yes, RFK, Jr., who is not a doctor; not a medical or healthcare professional of any kind; not qualified in any way, shape, or form to head this task force; and most important: IS NOT A WOMAN! How stupid do you have to be to not think, “We need to find a female physician to head this task force”? RFK, Jr., is the worst possible choice for this job. These people continue to demonstrate that they are dangerously delusional.
9. Donald J. Trump is destroying the justice system and defying court orders against him. He uses the DOJ as his personal law firm to go after his perceived enemies and people who criticize him.
10. Donald J. Trump is using federal law enforcement agencies to carry out his anti-immigrant policies through violent arrests, detentions, deportation to third countries, and denial of rights. People have died, and he doesn’t care.
11. Donald J. Trump is destroying the American Dream.
12. Donald J. Trump is destroying government property, building monuments to himself, and putting his name and his ugly mug every place he can.
13. Donald J. Trump is trying to create an authoritarian government and is behaving like a dictator. He and his cabinet, his advisors, his staff, his family, and the oligarchs who pay to play must be stopped and held to account for all their lawlessness.
14. Donald J. Trump is trying to destroy the integrity of our elections, disenfranchise legitimate voters, redraw districts to favor Republicans, and interfere in any way he thinks he can get away with. He will fail because We the People will replace weak Republicans with strong Democrats.
Fifty years ago I became eligible to vote and voted for the first time. To my mind, the current midterm election is the most important since that year because the threats to our country are dire. This year I am voting to preserve our Constitution, our republican form of government, and the free exercise of our democratic power. We the People are the government, and We the People hold the power.
Either we use our power or we lose it. VOTE!
